Vending and capsule machine toys: what fits and what pays

For a capsule (gumball-style) toy machine, choose small, light toys that fit your capsule size — mini squishies, small keychains, rings and tiny fidgets — and keep the cost of the toy plus the capsule well under the vend price.

Fit comes first

Capsule machines are built for a set capsule diameter, commonly 1 inch, 1.1 inches or 2 inches. Measure the toy against the inside of the capsule, not the outside, and allow for it to tumble freely or it will jam the wheel.

• 1–1.1 inch capsules: rings, tiny figures, mini erasers, small charms
• 2 inch capsules: mini squishies, keychains, small fidgets, bouncy balls
• Bulk (no capsule) machines: only items sized and shaped for the wheel, such as bouncy balls

Per-vend arithmetic

Your cost per vend is the toy plus the capsule plus any location commission. At a 50¢ or $1 vend that leaves very little room, which is why capsule toys are bought at the lowest unit prices in a catalogue.

On ToysinBulk the lowest-priced tier is the under-$1 range (about 290 items) and the new arrivals, several of which are under 50¢ a unit. Items in the $3–5 range suit $2–4 vends or a premium capsule column.

Common questions

What toys fit in a 2 inch vending capsule?

Mini squishies, small keychains, compact fidget toys and bouncy balls under about 1.75 inches across, so they can move inside the capsule.

What should vending toys cost?

The toy and capsule together should be a small fraction of the vend price — typically under a third — to leave room for location commission and margin.

Where do vending operators buy toys in bulk?

From wholesale suppliers that sell by the case. ToysinBulk sells small toys by the case to US vending route operators.
