Fidgets after the pop-it peak: what is moving into fall

Trends · September 18, 2026 · the Buying Desk

Pop-its had their run, and the run was a good one. What follows is not a crash but a change of shape: the reorders coming through the buying desk this month are quieter fidgets, the things a customer keeps in a pocket rather than shows to a friend. Slow-rise squishies, magnetic rings and small pocket puzzles are the ones being reordered by the case.

School stores and gift counters are driving it. The fidget that survives a classroom is small, silent and does not come apart, which rules out most of the noisy novelty end of the department and favours the plain, tactile end. Colour still sells, but it is the feel of the thing that gets the reorder.

For a counter, that means tiering rather than replacing. Keep a case of the loud, bright fidgets for the walk-up sale, and add a case or two of the quiet shapes for the customer who already owns three pop-its. Reorders on both can be placed by the case, with no minimum, so the mix can shift as the weather does.
