The seasonal reset calendar
Seasonal · September 17, 2026 · the Buying Desk
Seasonal stock has two dates that matter: the day the customer starts looking and the day they stop. A front table that fills three weeks before the first date sells through at full price; one that fills a week before it sells at a markdown. The calendar below is the buying desk’s working rule for when to place the order so the cases land in the first window, not the second.
Halloween: order by the end of August, reset the table in mid-September. Christmas and Hanukkah: order by early October, reset the week after Halloween comes down. Valentine’s: order in the first week of January, reset the last week of January. Easter: order four weeks ahead of the date, which moves every year, and reset three weeks ahead. Dispatch from Maxton, NC takes one to two days, so the order date can sit close to the reset date.
Mark down what is left the morning after the holiday, not the week after, and clear the table for the next one. The seasonal department turns over faster than any other on the site, and the stores that do best with it are the ones that treat the table as a calendar rather than a stockroom.
